We are looking for the ACDC ETF to follow through on its recent breakout towards its 2025 high, with the local lithium stocks looking capable of squeezing significantly higher.

The ACDC is looking good, like its namesake, the Australian rock band whose average age is +70, but their tickets for their Australian Tour this year still sold out in a few hours! The ACDC ETF aims to track the Solactive Battery Value-Chain Index. Of the thirty-nine stocks held, of the largest five, only one, Liontown Resources (LTR), is ASX traded, with most position sizes around 3%. From a geographical perspective, it holds 18.4% in Japan, 14.5% in the US, 11% in Germany, with Australia 5th at 8.6% – a truly global ETF.

The take up of Electric vehicles (EVs) continues to disappoint bullish forecasts of recent years with EV’s falling to their lowest proportion of new cars purchased in more than two years as motorists become increasingly concerned about resale values and the cost of repairs. Remember, how in January 2024 rental car giant Hertz (HTZ US) sold a large number of its EV fleet and bought petrol replacements, a great call in hindsight.

I’ve been a member for 2-3 years and read your weekly Q&A for tips. IPG seemed to suit both for ESG and new economy ie renewables. My new investment seemed good at first but lately has fallen off like my other ESG investment in PLS. What is happening at IPD as there hasn’t been any adverse announcements? Also, can you comment on the whole ESG scene? It seems now coal shares is a better buy!

What are you views on Alantic Lithium? Aware there is an over-supply of lithium.

The weakness across the Lithium Sector has lost its place in the financial press due to the strong rallies in copper and gold. Usually, more “clicks” are achieved from bad news and crash-style stories, but the lithium bear market has grown old in the tooth. However, as we’ve seen with other commodities and related stocks, this year is starting to look exciting for the commodity space, and we believe lithium can join the party, at least for a while. We aren’t as bullish towards lithium as copper, for example, with the supply & demand dynamics far from clear, but we can see them enjoying a strong finish to this FY.

Firstly to all the team at MM thank you for your most insightful reports
Much appreciated
I have a load of CHN from the heady days of $6.50 and watched them slide to the current price of $1.22 I still like the story but difficult to now get excited. Do you suggest a top-up to average down or put in the back draw and open up a nice bottle of red!
Cheers
Mark
